Taichung has a new architectural crown jewel. On December 13, 2025, the Taichung Art Museum and Library Complex—the result of a high-profile collaboration between Pritzker Prize-winners SANAA and Ricky Liu & Associates—finally opened its doors. Built on the site of a former military airfield, the project (dubbed the "Green Museumbrary") is a masterclass in transparency and lightness. The complex consists of eight buildings connected by sky bridges and spiral ramps, wrapped in SANAA’s signature expanded metal mesh and glass. Beyond the 40,000 square feet of galleries, the site features a "cultural forest" on the roof and shaded public plazas at ground level. The inaugural exhibition, A Call of All Beings: See You Tomorrow, Same Time, Same Place, is currently on view through April 12, 2026. It’s more than just a building; it’s a porous, open-air invitation to explore the intersection of nature, memory, and the future of Taiwan.
